The Millennium Challenge Account - Georgia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, within the framework of the "Industry-led Skills and Workforce Development” project organized the First Annual Conference on Vocational Education for Economic Development on 18 July, 2016.

The general theme of the first conference was about bridging the gap between vocational education and the labour market with the aim of securing an increased level of industry engagement in the vocational education system. It was intended that annual TVET conference will provide a long-term focus for national debate and the exchange of ideas about human capital development in the country.

The conference brought together around 200 senior participants from politics, the business community, international agencies and civil society to discuss how to increase and enhance labour market-oriented TVET development, share best policy strategies and offer new ideas of modernizing vocational education sector in Georgia. Three parallel sessions were held by the end of the conference in the following topics: public-private partnership in vocational education, increasing TVET participation rates and work-based learning.
